AboutCathryn Arms (she/her)Counselling Placement StudentI have always had a passion for helping people, which has led me to pursue caring professions. For the past seven years, I have been working as a First Aid practitioner in a high school of 1,500 students, assisting with physical and mental health first aid. Prior to that, I had worked as a Medical Secretary, a Personal Trainer, and a Fitness & Wellbeing Coach. My deep sense of empathy, curiosity, and open-mindedness allows me to work alongside people when they are most vulnerable, support them to find their strengths, achieve their goals, and work towards positive change. I am now completing the final units of my Bachelor of Counselling degree with the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP). I am fortunate enough to be spending eight months on professional placement at Your Life in Colour. During this time, I hope to connect with adults who are perhaps experiencing symptoms of depression and/or anxiety and seeking to develop some additional coping strategies, or who may be at a junction in their life and are seeking to explore and expand themselves in a supportive environment. I also have a special interest in gender and sexual diversity and inclusivity and the impact this can have on individuals who identify as gender diverse and the people who support them. I understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach, and as such, I offer an integrated approach that is as individual as you are. I adopt a trauma-informed and person-centred approach that draws from Positive Psychology, Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, and I look forward to supporting you in your counselling journey.
